MATCH PREDICTION
Brazil, who only scraped through the group stage as one of the best third-placed teams, now find themselves in the semi-finals after overcoming host nation France in the last eight on Saturday, Gabi Portilho scoring the decisive goal in the final ten minutes in Nantes.
The Selecao have already faced Spain in this tournament and will hope for better fortunes this time around after losing their group stage encounter 2-0, although they were reduced to ten players in that fixture and gave a good account of themselves despite the defeat.
One of the pre-tournament favourites, Spain cruised through the group stage but were on the brink of elimination in their quarter-final after going two goals down to Colombia. However, two late goals, including one deep into injury-time, levelled matters before they prevailed on penalties.
Brazil have appealed national team legend Marta’s two-game suspension after her dismissal in the group stage clash between these two medal hopefuls, but even if she is allowed to take to the field here, Spain’s overall quality gives them the edge.
