Boss Eguavoen happy with Super Eagles mentality as Nigeria get set to face Rwanda
Super Eagles interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen praised his side’s mentality heading into Nigeria’s second Group D clash of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification group stage against Rwanda in Kigali.
As Technical Director of the Super Eagles, Eguavoen took charge on an interim basis following the collapse of Bruno Labbadia’s planned appointment as head coach just days after the German had been announced as the new man in charge by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
However, the upheaval didn’t seem to affect the Nigerian players, who defeated Benin 3-0 on Saturday thanks to two goals from Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and one from Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray. The result sees them top of Group D, two points clear of their upcoming opponents.
Speaking to ‘This Day’, Eguavoen spoke about mentality and the Super Eagles’ upcoming clash with Rwanda.
“We have the right mentality now, and the mood in camp is excellent. Everyone in camp is eager for us to pick up the three points in Rwanda and stay firmly on top of the qualifying table.”
Rwanda’s opening Group D fixture ended in a 1-1 draw between them and Libya, with Innocent Nshuti equalising for Torsten Spittler’s side early in the second period after having gone behind in the first half.
