Splitter says home advantage will be crucial for Rwanda against the Super Eagles
In order to beat three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners Nigeria on Tuesday, Rwanda head coach Torsten Spittler says that making home advantage count will be vitally important for his side.
The Super Eagles travel to Kigali on the back of a 3-0 win over Benin this past weekend and will hope to carry that momentum into this latest AFCON group stage qualification fixture, whilst Rwanda fought hard to gain a 1-1 draw away at Libya just less than a week ago.
Speaking to ‘The New Times’, Spittler expressed hope that his side’s draw with Libya, along with being at home here, would inject confidence into the Rwandan players.
“We know our next game against Nigeria won’t be easy, but we hope to make the best of our home advantage. Now every point counts, and this draw with Libya brings us more confidence.”
Ademola Lookman scored twice for Nigeria against Benin, whilst Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen came off the bench to net his 22nd Super Eagles goal in 36 appearances. The likelihood is that Osimhen will start at the Amahoro Stadium in place of Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.
