Despite recording 20 shots on goal, Nigeria were unable to find the net against Rwanda on Tuesday, with the score in Kigali finishing scoreless.

The Super Eagles could not find a way past opposition goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari despite nine of their 20 shots being on target.

After starting on the bench for a second consecutive game, Victor Osimhen was brought on to try and spark an opening, but the Galatasaray star couldn’t break through.

Ntwari was the star for Rwanda, making a string of crucial saves across the game from the likes of Ademola Lookman and Wilfred Ndidi, including one big stop right at the end to deny Osimhen a late winner.

The point sees Nigeria move onto four points in Group D of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification group, still enough for the Super Eagles to top the table.

However, the gap between them and second-place has been cut to one point following Benin’s victory against Libya, the latter being Nigeria’s next opponents in just under a month’s time.

It remains to be seen as to whether the Super Eagles will have appointed a new permanent head coach by that time, with Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen having taken charge on an interim basis over the course of this latest international break.
