Ahead of UEFA EURO 2024, these two sides, alongside England, were tipped up as the leading contenders for the trophy but both have underwhelmed. After coming from behind against Czechia, losing to Georgia and then requiring penalties against Slovenia in the Round of 16, Roberto Martinez’ Portugal have stumbled through to this stage after what was an extremely impressive qualifying campaign last year. France, on the other hand, ended up as runners’ up in Group D behind Austria and Didier Deschamps’ side are yet to remotely click in an attacking sense. Les Bleus have scored three goals in this tournament with two own goals and a penalty, whilst Portugal haven’t scored themselves since defeating Turkey 3-0 and two of their five goals in this tournament have also been scored by opposition players. This will likely be a tight, tense and nervy affair in Hamburg so a low-scoring encounter with under 2.5 goals would be a good bet.
