MATCH PREDICTION
Spain came from behind to defeat France in the semi-final of UEFA EURO 2024 on Tuesday with a spectacular equalising goal from the youngest player to ever score at the UEFA European Championships, 16-year-old Lamine Yamal. La Roja, coached by Luis de la Fuente, have been magnificent throughout this tournament but there will still, somehow, be concerns over the overall weakness of their personnel at the back and their profligacy in attack when they are on top.
England have not been profligate. Many can criticise the performance level of Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions but they have been efficient to a fault in this tournament, coming from behind to win all three of their knockout games. It is consecutive UEFA European Championship finals for England as they bid to end 58 years without a trophy and the way this tournament has gone, with memorable moments keeping them alive, would suggest there may well be an element of destiny to this summer.
Based on the performance level of the two teams in their six matches so far, there is an argument that Spain should wipe the floor with England. However, with their general improvement and a real focus on the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka attacking an, on paper, weak left-hand side of the Spanish defence, it would be reasonable to suggest that the trophy drought could end this Sunday and England, somehow, walk away with the title of UEFA EURO 2024 champions.
